Travelled for the first time abroad. It is the first of many trips that have taken me many times to the United States, Canada, Mexico,  Middle East and Africa, as well as in many European countries.

First computer

I am 7 years old and my first computer arrives at home. It is an Apple II. Probably one of the first home computers that arrives in Italy. Start copying the first games in Basic; see them working marks my life.

First telematic connection

The first modem arrives (300 baud). In Italy there are no (or I do not know) systems to connect to. But at home I have a book with thousands of American telephone numbers to connect to. A sort of modem’s yellow pages. I connect to a Penn State’ University (Pennsylvania) PC and spend one or two hours chatting with a complete stranger. From this moment Italian telephone company’s profit starts increasing considerably.

The first Personal Computer based on x86 architecture arrives at home. I officially become part of Microsoft (Dos and Windows) and Linux Operative Systems.

I start my first business activity. I deal with assembly, upgrade and PC’s repair. At the same time I start providing assistance and consulting services to companies and individuals.

The email arrives

I can access an “unofficial” dial up service that offers the chance to send emails and access some Usenet groups. It is the first time I have access to an “Internet service” (still practically non-existent in Italy).

First job as an employee

I’m in charge of IT department for the Messaggerie Libri group in Rome. I am involved in integrating and improving the reservation and order management system for distributors. Afterwards I’m in charge of IT also at the first MEL Bookstore store in Rome, which will become, years later, ibs.it, considered the first company to launch electronic commerce in Italy.

I finish my studies at Liceo Classico Ennio Quirino Visconti in Rome. I needed 2 years more than expected. Although having spent these additional 2 years to further deepen the school program, I finish the cycle of studies with the minimum grade required 🙂

The Internet arrives

The Internet arrives

Finally, the Internet also arrives in Italy. The first provider is Video Online. Access is dial-up and subscriptiona are purchased at newsstands. We have the World Wide Web.

Starting from an empty arcade cabinet, I create kiosks with a keyboard and a trackball instead of the classic joysticks and buttons. They are placed in some businesses in Rome and allow people to surf the Internet, send emails and access the Internet Relay Chat by purchasing a timed code directly in the store.

I begin my hobby activity as a photographer. I mainly dedicate myself to musical events and film sets’ photo shooting. After 3 years, what started as a hobby risks to become a job. This does not excite me and I leavr everything to move on to another hobby: aerial videos with the first drones in Italy.

I take care of the servers, the management of a team of moderators, the integration with company’s editorial sites and the development of strategies, development and customization of management software. Over the years it has become the main Italian sport’s community with more than 10 million messages and 1 million and 200 thousand users.

Launch of AgarServ.com site. After a few months the site reaches an unexpected success, becoming part of the 50,000 most visited internet’s websites. I am forced to quickly learn how to integrate load balancing systems to support user’s traffic.

Tenerife

After a short (10 days) exploratory vacation I decide to move to Tenerife. What convinces me to take this step is a climate considerably milder than the Italian one. Much less cold in winter and less sultry in summer. I open my own Spanish company: Brain Juice SL.
